Solution-Focused Hypnotherapy: The Neuroscience of the Freeze Response and Behavioral Change.
Most writing about hypnotherapy describes what it feels like. This describes what it does.
I’m Eteri McKenzie, a solution-focused hypnotherapist completing an MSc in Human Cognitive Neuropsychology at the University of Edinburgh. My practice is grounded in clinical hypnotherapy and the neuroscience of how the brain exits threat states and returns to deliberate action.
The freeze response is at the center of most problems people bring to therapy. Anxiety that won’t shift. Procrastination that feels physical. Prefrontal-amygdala research explains why these states persist, and solution-focused hypnotherapy offers a clinically grounded route through them.
This blog is where those two bodies of work meet. You’ll find evidence-based writing on the neuroscience of stress, emotional regulation, and behavioral change, drawn from peer-reviewed research and direct clinical practice. The writing is specific because vague reassurance doesn’t actually help anyone.
Whether you’re a client trying to understand what’s happening in your brain, a practitioner engaging with the research, or someone who thinks better when explanations are honest and precise, you’ll find it here.
These writings are for anyone who wants to understand their mind more deeply, move through stress and procrastination with ease, and reconnect with a sense of calm motivation. Every insight is written with the same intention that guides my hypnotherapy practice: to help you feel safe enough to move forward with clear focus and curiosity.
